What is a Wax Buildup from Tile Floors?
There are certain floors like vinyl and linoleum which age with time. Waxing helps in keeping their shine and avoid wear and tear. You can also do waxing on tile floors, wooden floors, and epoxy floors. But with time, you need to remove wax buildup from tile floors. The wax turns yellow with time and can make the floor look dirty even after cleaning it. The solution is to remove the old wax buildup before waxing again. You need to remove furniture from the floors, sweep away any debris, and mop well to remove any dirt before removing wax.
Steps for removing the wax buildup from tile floors below
1) Remove wax buildup from tile floors using dishwasher detergent and ammonia
Use a solution of 7.57 L of hot water, 1 cup (240 mL) of dishwasher detergent, and 2 cups (480 mL) of ammonia along with a sponge mop. After that, wait for a couple of minutes. Scrub gently with a scrubber edge of the broom or a scrub brush and then sweep away any extra liquid. Now, use clear hot water and a scrubber to remove any remaining wax.
2) A solution of water and ammonia and mop to remove wax buildup from tile floors
You can use ½ cup ammonia and 7.57 L of warm water to remove the wax from tile floors. Again wait for about 10 minutes to allow the solution to sit on the floor. After that, dry the floor using old towels. You can repeat the process to remove any remaining wax buildup.
3) Use of ammonia, warm water, and laundry detergent
You can remove any wax buildup by using ¾ cup of ammonia, 1 cup of laundry detergent, and 3.785 L of warm water. After allowing the solution to sit on the tile floor for a few minutes, scrub the floor. Then rinse the solution with clean water from the floor. Before you apply new wax, dry once with old towels.
4) Use of club soda to remove wax buildup from tile floors
You can pour the club soda directly on the tile floor and then scrub with a brush or sponge. After letting the soda seep into the wax for a few minutes, gently wipe the floor dry.
5) Remove wax from tile floors with a chemical floor-polish stripper
You can buy a synthetic floor polish-stripper, made for the type of tile you have. First, pour a certain amount of the polish-stripper on a section of wax buildup from tile floors. Then let it seep into the wax for 10 minutes. After that, use a wire brush and scrub the floor vigorously. Wipe up the stripper with the help of rags. Now, mop the floor with clean water to remove any stripper. You will be required to repeat this process until the entire floor is washed and scrubbed.
- You can also scrub the polish using floor buffer, which has a stripping pad.
- Try wiping up the stripper using a wet/dry vacuum, which comes with a squeegee attachment.
